Flag of Nigeria

What the flag looks like

Three vertical stripes of green, white and green.

What it means

Green represents the country's forests and agriculture, and white peace and unity.

How to remember it

Nigeria is just green-white-green standing upright, no emblem at all: green farmland on both sides of a white road of peace.

Fun facts

• The flag was designed in 1958 by Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi, a student in London; his original entry had a red sun, which the judges removed.
• Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa.
