Flag of Nevada
Officially State of Nevada
What the flag looks like
A cobalt blue field with an emblem in the upper hoist corner: a silver five-pointed star with "NEVADA" in gold below it, framed by two sprays of sagebrush, under a gold scroll reading "Battle Born".
What it means
The silver star recalls the state's silver mining, the sagebrush is the state flower, and "Battle Born" marks its admission to the Union during the Civil War.
How to remember it
Nevada
keeps its emblem tucked in the top corner: a silver star with a "Battle Born" scroll overhead, not a seal in the middle.
Fun facts
- Nevada became a state on 31 October 1864, during the Civil War, hence the scroll's "Battle Born".
- In 1991 the law was corrected to place the letters of "NEVADA" below the star; earlier flags had spread them between its points.
