Flag of Luxembourg
Officially Grand Duchy of Luxembourg
Locally Lëtzebuerg
What the flag looks like
Three equal horizontal stripes of red, white and light blue.
What it means
The colors come from the coat of arms of the House of Luxembourg: a red lion on a field of blue and white stripes.
How to remember it
'Lux' means light, so Luxembourg
has the light, sky-blue bottom stripe; the Netherlands
uses dark navy.
Fun facts
- Because the flag is so easily confused with the Dutch one, Luxembourg has repeatedly debated replacing it with the 'Red Lion' flag taken from its coat of arms.
- Luxembourg is the world's only remaining grand duchy.
