Map showing where Georgia is

What the flag looks like

A white field with a large red St George's cross in the center and a smaller red cross (a bolnisi cross) in each of the four quarters.

What it means

The cross honors St George, the country's patron saint, and the five crosses together reflect Georgia's Christian heritage.

How to remember it

Georgia looks like England's St George's cross with four extra little red crosses in the corners, which is why it is called the Five Cross Flag.

Fun facts

  • The Five Cross Flag is based on medieval Georgian banners and was popularised during the 2003 Rose Revolution before its official adoption in January 2004.
  • Georgians call their country Sakartvelo.
