What the flag looks like

Two horizontal bands, white over red, with a blue isosceles triangle reaching from the hoist to the center of the flag.

What it means

White and red are the colors of Bohemia's coat of arms; blue was added for Moravia and to tell the flag apart from Poland's.

How to remember it

Take Poland's white-over-red and drive a blue wedge in from the flagpole: that's Czechia; the Philippines adds a golden sun and stars to its white triangle.

Fun facts

  • It was the flag of Czechoslovakia, and Czechia kept it in 1993 even though the split agreement said neither successor state should use the old federal symbols.
  • Czechia consistently tops world rankings for beer consumption per person.
