Map showing where Bangladesh is

What the flag looks like

A dark green field with a large red disc placed slightly towards the hoist from the center.

What it means

The red disc represents the sun rising over Bengal and the blood of those who died in the 1971 Liberation War; green represents the lush land.

How to remember it

Bangladesh is Japan's red sun set on green grass and nudged towards the flagpole; Palau's disc is a yellow moon on blue.

Fun facts

  • The first flag of 1971 had a yellow map of the country inside the red disc; it was removed in 1972, partly because it was hard to render correctly on both sides.
  • The disc is offset towards the hoist so that it appears centered when the flag is flying.
