Flag of Arkansas

Officially State of Arkansas

Map showing where Arkansas is

What the flag looks like

A red field with a large white diamond edged by a blue band holding 25 white stars; inside the diamond, ARKANSAS in blue with one blue star above it and three below.

What it means

The diamond marks Arkansas as the only US state where diamonds have been mined, and the 25 stars show it was the 25th state; the three stars below the name stand for Spain, France and the United States, and the star above for the Confederacy.

How to remember it

Arkansas frames a big white diamond on red, because it is the one US state with a diamond mine, and writes ARKANSAS across it.

Fun facts

  • The flag was designed by Willie Hocker, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and first adopted in 1913.
  • Visitors to Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas can dig for diamonds and keep what they find.
